A Georgia man is facing charges after police say he tried to kidnap a child at a Walmart.

According to the Acworth Police Department, officers responded March 18 to the Walmart on Cobb Parkway after receiving a call about a man who attempted to snatch a child away from their mother.

Officers spoke with the mother and witnesses and learned that the suspect approached her and asked a question about Tylenol. The suspect then grabbed the child and attempted to pull the child away from the mother. The mother was able to break away and the suspect fled the area.

Police said the child was not injured during the incident.

Detectives reviewed the surveillance cameras, FLOCK traffic cameras, and spoke with witnesses, which led to a warrant being obtained for the suspect's arrest.

On Friday, Mahendra Patel, 56, of Kennesaw, was arrested. Patel is charged with:

Simple Assault (Misdemeanor)

• Simple Battery (Misdemeanor)

• Kidnapping (Felony)

Patel is in custody at the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, held with no bond.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Acworth Police Department at 770-974-1232.
