
FATAL HIT & RUN INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST
On Thursday, February 13, 2025, at approximately 6:09 AM, a tragic incident unfolded on Bowens Mill Highway near Walmart, resulting in the death of a man who was struck by a vehicle traveling in the westbound lane. The driver fled the scene without reporting the crash, prompting a rapid response from deputies of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the City of Douglas Police Department (DPD), and Georgia State Patrol (GSP). These agencies launched an extensive investigation into the circumstances of the accident, with countless man-hours in an effort to locate the vehicle and identify the responsible driver. Their dedication to solving the case along with community assistance; proved fruitful when, just shortly after 1:00 AM on February 15, 2025, deputies made contact with the vehicle's owner and subsequently identified the individual who was driving during the incident.
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Eloy Garcia, of Douglas was taken into custody, He is currently being held at the CCSO Detention Center.
