 WAYCROSS & BLACKSHEAR GA NEWS

A horrific traffic accident has occurred on Highway 158 East near Mallard Pointe. A silver Dodge Charger was allegedly fleeing a trooper from the Georgia State Patrol. They were traveling east on Highway 158 when, near the forestry tower, the trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the Charger. The vehicle left the roadway and crossed over into the ditch on the north side of the road. It hit a culvert then went airborne, clipped a light pole, and landed in the side yard of the home at the corner of Mallard Pointe and 158. The trooper's car continued traveling east and crashed into the ditch on the south side of the highway. Both the trooper and the suspect were transported from the scene with serious injuries. Highway 158 in the area of Mallard Pointe is going to be shut down for a while as officers investigate the scene. Anyone traveling that stretch of road tonight should choose an alternate route. The trooper is not from the Douglas post.
