1 student killed, another wounded in Nashville high school cafeteria shooting; shooter dead

Police said the suspect fatally shot himself after killing a 16-year-old and wounding a 17-year-old at Antioch High School.

A teenager fatally shot a 16-year-old student and wounded another Wednesday at a Nashville high school cafeteria before fatally shooting himself, officials said.

The gunman, 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, used a handgun to open fire at Antioch High School just after 11 a.m. CT, police said.

The 16-year-old who was killed was identified as Josselin Corea Escalante. A male student, 17, suffered a graze wound to the arm and was treated at a hospital and released, police said.

7 San Antonio police officers shot while responding to call, gunman dead

SAN ANTONIO – Seven police officers with the San Antonio PD were wounded after a shooting on the north side. Investigators said the gunman has died.

According to our sister station, KSAT, it all started just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in San Antonio’s Stone Oak neighborhood for a suicide in progress call.

SAPD Chief William McManus initially said during their first news conference four officers were hurt, but a subsequent update revealed 3 additional officers suffered gunshot wounds. The first four officers were rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but it’s unclear what condition the other three officers were in.

The Apple ecosystem has always been something of a contentious issue. It’s what attracts many users in the first place, with promises of ease of use and a secure environment in which to work and play, but it also locks them in once they are there. Take the use of iCloud, which Apple has said users are not required to use and it works to “make data transfer as easy as possible,” for users. With free storage on offer up to 5GB, anything more costs money depending on the amount of storage space required. Given that iCloud is used to store everything from documents to photos and video from an iPhone, for example, the basic 5GB is soon eaten up by the average iOS user. This is the basis of the legal action which could see Apple on the hook for $3.75 billion (£3 billion) in reparations.

M Night Shyamalan sued for $81m in copyright claim against popular Apple TV series

‘The Sixth Sense’ director is on trial in a claim worth $81m (£66m)

Director M Night Shyamalan went on trial on Tuesday (14 January) over allegations that he plagiarised from an independent film for his Apple TV + series Servant.

The $81m (£66m) lawsuit brought by Italian director Francesca Gregorini accuses Shyamalan of taking key elements from her 2013 film The Truth about Emanuel.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Shyamalan, is best known for classics including The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. His films are said to have cumulatively grossed over $3.3bn (£2.7bn).

His psychological horror series, Servant, follows the story of a couple who hire an eighteen-year-old girl to help them look after a child. It transpires that the child is dead, and has been replaced by a reborn doll, which the traumatised mother still believes is alive.

Apple to pay $95 million to settle Siri privacy lawsuit

Jan 2 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab agreed to pay $95 million in cash to settle a proposed class action lawsuit claiming that its voice-activated Siri assistant violated users' privacy.

A preliminary settlement was filed on Tuesday night in the Oakland, California federal court, and requires approval by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White.

Mobile device owners complained that Apple routinely recorded their private conversations after they activated Siri unintentionally, and disclosed these conversations to third parties such as advertisers.

Voice assistants typically react when people use "hot words" such as "Hey, Siri."

Two plaintiffs said their mentions of Air Jordan sneakers and Olive Garden restaurants triggered ads for those products. Another said he got ads for a brand name surgical treatment after discussing it, he thought privately, with his doctor.

The class period runs from Sept. 17, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2024. It began when Siri incorporated the "Hey, Siri" feature that allegedly led to the unauthorized recordings.
